At only 26 inches long and ~6 pounds, it's easy to hold, easy to pack, and (unlike the KSG) easy to use.
You might also consider the KS7 for what it's worth. Often found for less than $500, this is an inexpensive way to get a tactical-ish shotgun with a front sight bead that makes it ready to shoot right out of the box. Along with its many M-LOK slots, there are also several places to mount items like lights and sling mounts.
The KS7 is easy to operate and fun to shoot...up to a point. This shotgun is so light, I felt all the recoil with every round I took. With hot ammo, this little shotgun kicks like a mule. I can confidently say that anyone who owns a KS7 should put a soft buttpad on it to reduce harsh recoil. The "pad" on this shotgun is rock hard.
One improvement in the KSG that is immediately noticeable over the KS7 is the feel and function of the pump action. It functions more like a traditional shotgun than the KSG action, which is loaded and plastic, and prone to easy short-strokes. This action feels better and makes it easier to rotate the gun correctly between shots. Well done, Kel-Tec. Pump grip is also improved over what's on the KSG. With front and back mold stops, it's easy to secure your hand in the right position. However, I recommend not placing your thumb on the front stop fold. Your thumb will stiffen when the gun goes off.
