The Alia-250 presented in June 2020 will be available in both passenger and cargo versions. The project consisted of three years of design and development work. Electric aircraft can take off and land vertically before switching to long-range flight.

Beta Technologies was founded in 2017 with the goal of developing a battery-powered aircraft capable of vertical flight and landing. The Alia-250 was designed based on the experience gained during the successful test flight of the first unmanned aerial vehicle, Ava.

The prototype of the new plane under development will fly from Plattsburgh, New York, to the company's headquarters in March 2021.

The design of the Alia-250 is inspired by the Arctic Circle, the world's longest migratory bird. It takes cues from the bird's tail structure and wingspan to enable long-haul Arctic Circle flight and deliver the same performance.

The 50-foot wingspan aircraft has a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 6,000 pounds (2,721 kg). The passenger version of the aircraft can carry six passengers, including the pilot, and the cargo version has a 200-ft.

Effective aerodynamic features of EVTOL aircraft include curved wings, tapered wingtips, and slats. The V-shaped tail reduces drag and improves stability at low speeds.

The Alia-250 is powered by a distributed direct drive electrical system and a sealed battery pack. It is equipped with four horizontal tilts that provide vertical lift. A fixed-rotor engine reduces the complexity of eVTOL aircraft while reducing manufacturing cost, reducing aircraft maintenance needs and increasing safety.

The air-cooled electric motors powering the Alia-250 are designed in-house to provide high torque density and redundancy while delivering high efficiency. The elevators and thrusters are fully customized with high precision and process control, allowing the aircraft to fly long distances.

On EVTOL aircraft, battery packs located under the cockpit ensure that the aircraft's center of gravity is low and prevents swaying.

The battery pack can be charged in 50 minutes using Beta's fast charging system, which can be installed as a stand-alone component for airport operations or integrated into a charging pad for non-airport applications.

The fast charging system provides 480V AC, 60Hz three-phase alternating current 450A mains current, 350kVA continuous current capacity. The battery charging range is 950V DC with 350A continuous charging current and 500A output power. This electric aircraft has a range of about 463 kilometers and a speed of 270 kilometers per hour.

Alia-250 is the launch client of Allied Medical, an American biotech company developing artificial organs. The company intends to use the aircraft to distribute human organs. The package delivery company has entered into an agreement with UPS Flight Advance, a subsidiary of United Parcel Service (UPS), to purchase ten Alia-250 aircraft from Beta Technologies in March 2021, bringing the total to nearly 150 aircraft. The machine delivered to UPS has a load capacity of 635 kg, a range of 402 km, and a speed of 274 km/h. The first delivery of the Alia-250 aircraft is planned for 2024.

We use cookies in order to provide you with the best experience on our website. If you continue to use this website, we assume that you are satisfied with it. Learn more about beta techniques created by entrepreneur Kyle Clark. The company is one of several electronic VTOL companies funded by Martin Rothblatt's Joint Medical, Human Organ Transport. Their first technological indicator is the Ava XC.

The Alia-250 is an electric vertical takeoff (VLT) aircraft capable of carrying cargo or passengers. The cargo version is called Alia-250c.

With Aliya, the aim was to make the aircraft as simple as possible (which increases safety, complex aircraft have less breakdowns), to make the aircraft as light as possible, to transfer as much energy as possible through the batteries and store the aircraft. It is as efficient as possible by using an electric motor.

The main purpose of this aircraft is to transport two people and cargo from hospital to hospital. The aircraft has a range of 250 miles (400 km). The company's future plan is to build a passenger plane for 6 people, including the pilot.

Ups Plans To Start Deliveries Via Evtol In 2024

On June 12, 2020, Beta Technologies unveiled the Alia aircraft with four vertical elevators and one thruster for full flight. The all-electric flight form was inspired by the arctic tern, a powerful migratory bird that has the longest migration in the animal kingdom and travels complex cross-country routes of up to 90,000 kilometers, Clark said.

The Aliyah's design "includes angular fins, dramatically curved wings, and a twin tail assembly supported by bow and ribbon wings." According to the Wired magazine article. The company uses fixed-efficiency vertical propellers to bring aircraft to market to reduce aircraft complexity, reduce aircraft manufacturing costs, reduce maintenance requirements, increase safety, and facilitate certification. The wingspan, wing shape and long tail are designed to reduce drag and increase the stability of the aircraft at low speeds.

Each set of propellers has its own specific task (lift or cruise) and can be optimized for the aircraft design without having to compromise with the designed tilt propellers. The company also manufactures its own electric motors, ensuring that the motors are fully compatible with the aircraft. Battery cells are purchased from third-party manufacturers, but battery packs are customized and manufactured in-house.

On November 9, 2020, a video showing the test flight of the Alia prototype was published on the company's Facebook and Instagram accounts.

As of May 29, 2020, Beta Technologies is a key participant in the United States Air Force Agility Program and has entered the third phase of initial capability development. Agility Prime is a United States Air Force program to add aircraft to its fleet. The Air Force needs aircraft for both passenger and cargo missions. For passenger aircraft, the aircraft must have a capacity of three to eight passengers, a speed of at least 100 mph (161 km/h), and a range of at least 161 km. The aircraft had a total takeoff weight of more than 1,320 pounds (599 kg) to perform the cargo mission.

The US Air Force envisions the aircraft in applications such as search and rescue (SAR), medical deployment, firefighting, disaster response, humanitarian operations, logistics, special operations and other defense support.

On April 7, 2021, United Parcel Service (UPS) announced the purchase of 150 Aliya aircraft to transport time-sensitive cargo to and from UPS facilities. This aircraft is used for UPS and generally small general purpose aircraft that fly from airport to airport. UPS expects this to be a stepping stone in expanding cargo flights to other delivery services. The first aircraft is expected to be delivered to UPS in 2024. UPS also said it has an increasing number of electric vehicles and plans to use ground and air charging at its freight facilities.

On April 13, 2021, Beta Technologies and Blade (based in New York) signed an agreement to purchase five Aliya aircraft and selected 15 for purchase. Blade was founded in 2014, has 200,000 users, and delivered 40,000 passengers by helicopter in 2019. However, since Aliyah is very quiet, Blade hopes to build and/or purchase new infrastructure in areas where helicopters have not previously been allowed to fly.

As of April 2021, Beta Technologies has four customers: United Medical, the US Air Force (through their Agility Prime program), United Parcel Service, and TIG.

Beta Technologies has developed a fast charging station for airplanes in less than three years. The landing pad can be used on almost any VTOL aircraft, such as airliners, helicopters or transport drones. They even charge quickly
